EXCEL Program

During the process of admission to IMSA, students are sometimes identified as having exceptional potential but as not having had access to key academic opportunities in their pursuit of educational excellence. The EXCEL program serves students who are conditionally admitted to IMSA, pending their successful completion of the EXCEL program. Successful completion of EXCEL allows full admission status to IMSA. The three-week, residential program takes place during the summer immediately prior to the planned admission. EXCEL program activities include the three-week summer program, and ongoing support programs throughout the year including: study groups, academic advising, connections with faculty, staff, and tutoring opportunities, cultural enrichment and appreciation activities, and an overall support network designed to help students be successful at IMSA. During the summer program, students engage in mathematics, science, and English classes designed to expose students to concepts they may be unfamiliar with, which will be critical to later success at the Academy. In addition, the co-curricular component of EXCEL allows for interpersonal skill development, and a chance to become familiar with the IMSA environment and culture.

The 2007 EXCEL program is to take place July 8-27, 2007 on IMSA's campus. Students will be notified of EXCEL decisions two to three weeks after placement testing.
