AURORA-- The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy has received a $25,000 grant from Lucent Technologies to support the Lucent Technologies Student Research Program.
"The Lucent Technologies Student Research Program will support unique research opportunities for our students," said Ted Parge, IMSA Vice President for Institutional Advancement. "IMSA students will now be able to publish and/or present their research at prominent state, national and international scientific conferences, participate in special summer mentorship opportunities and learn from resident experts in the IMSA Great Minds Program."
In addition to benefiting IMSA students, Lucent’s gift would also support the creation of an IMSA Junior Research Scholar Program for middle school students, and would expand IMSA’s annual Presentation Day to include participation from top science students from schools throughout Illinois. IMSA students could then mentor others interested in continuing their science research through on-line interactive site on the World Wide Web.
"At Lucent Technologies, research and development is fundamental to creating a stream of ideas for inventing next-generation technology that sets us apart from all others," said Dave Geary, Vice President-North America, Lucent Technologies, and a member of the IMSA Fund Board of Directors. "Lucent Technologies is proud to support IMSA in its efforts to foster student research and innovation, the fundamental activities of science that can help improve the way we live."
