IMSA DISTRIBUTES FREE SCIENCE CD-ROMS TO 350 CHICAGOLAND SCHOOLS
AURORA, IL Students at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) have developed the second issue of Real Science, an interactive CD-ROM designed for upper elementary school students (grades 3-5) to spark their interest in science.
The recently-released 1999 issue was developed by Real Science club members, headed by Editors Jorge Reyes of Chicago, Janessa Stream of Rossville, Hari Phatak of Wilmette and Neha Narula of Barrington (all are members of IMSAs Class of 1999). Over 1200 elementary schools were mailed surveys about Real Science topic development and the 350 schools that returned them received a free CD-ROM. The concept and first issue of Real Science was developed in 1995 by IMSA alums Matt Brody 95 of Highland Park and Arvind Sekar 95 of Danville.
The 99 Real Science CD-ROM features articles and experiments on Aerodynamics, Atoms, Cell City, Polymers, Plutonium and Rockets as well as feature interviews with Nobel Laureate Dr. Leon Lederman and Captain James Lovell. Real Science 2000 is currently in development and will be mailed out to Chicagoland elementary schools in May, 2000.
Any elementary school interested in requesting a free copy can e-mail britta@imsa.edu or call (630) 907-5879 to be placed on the Real Science mailing list.
