Veal Named IMSA Vice President for Advancement

AURORA-- Catherine C. Veal of Aurora has been named vice president for advancement at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. She will direct resource development, marketing and communications activities to increase and sustain public and private support for IMSA's work to improve mathematics and science teaching and learning.
Her responsibilities will include fundraising, developing volunteers, cultivating strategic alliances and partnerships with the public and private sectors, and increasing the public's understanding of IMSA's mission and value.
Her appointment comes at a time when IMSA is expanding programs and services for schools, teachers and students throughout Illinois. These include professional development programs for teachers and enrichment programs for elementary, middle school and high school students. In addition, Benedictine University and IMSA are starting an alternative teacher certification program to recruit and prepare individuals with strong science backgrounds for careers in teaching.
Veal joined IMSA's staff when the Academy opened in 1986. She previously served as dean of student services, director of communications and most recently as chief of staff. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and a master's degree in communication studies from Northern Illinois University.
She serves on the board of directors and chairs the fund development committee of Girl Scouts - Fox Valley Council, is 1st vice president of the American Association of University Women - Aurora branch, and was a YWCA Women of Distinction recipient in 2000.
