IMSA Kids Institute Distributes Free Real Science CD-ROMs to Educators

IMSA KIDS INSTITUTE DISTRIBUTES FREE REAL SCIENCE CD-ROMS TO EDUCATORS

AURORA, IL –  The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Kids Institute has released Real Science 2002, an interactive science CD-ROM designed for students in grades 3-6 to spark their interest in science.  A free copy of Real Science 2002, sponsored by BP as part of the IMSA Kids Institute 2001 BP Leader Award, is being mailed to 700 Illinois schools and educators. 

The recently-released 2002 issue was developed by Real Science IMSA Kids Institute students, headed by Class of 2002 Editors Eric Bowden of Sycamore, Kevin Yang of Naperville and Rosalind Yang of Chicago.  Class of 2003 Editors are Adam Carpenter of Lake Forest and Matthew Getz of Peoria.  The concept and first issue of Real Science was developed in 1995 by IMSA alums Matt Brody '95 of  Highland Park and Arvind Sekar '95 of Danville.  

The Real Science 2002 CD-ROM features articles on topics including Marine Biology, The Water Cycle, Mitosis and Simple Machines.  In addition, interviews feature dinosaur hunter and paleontologist Dr. Paul Sereno and Homer Hickam, subject of the movie October Sky and retired NASA aerospace engineer.  Any elementary or middle school, Regional Office of Education, museum or library interested in requesting a free copy of Real Science 2002, can e-mail britta@imsa.edu or call (630) 907-5987 to be placed on the Real Science mailing list.
