AURORA—Daniel Gulotta, a senior at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA), was selected to be a member of the United States Physics Team for a second consecutive year. Only 24 students nationally are chosen for the 2003 team from a pool of 1,500 nominees. Three other IMSA students were named semi-finalists in the competition.

Gulotta, of Naperville, was selected as a member of the team based on a semi-final exam, his transcript and academic summary, an application and letter of recommendation.

As a result of making the team, Gulotta will attend nine days of intensive training and problem-solving in May 2003 at the University of Maryland. Five members of the team will be chosen to represent the U.S. at the International Physics Olympiad in Taipei, Taiwan.

Other IMSA students who were named semi-finalists in the competition include Jeffrey Chang of Glenview, Elaine Khoong of Downers Grove, and Bobby Xu of Naperville.
