IMSA Seeks Applicants for Early Involvement Program

AURORA—Registration is now open for ninth-graders in Chicago to participate in the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA)’s Early Involvement Program (EIP).

In its 13th year, EIP is designed to help African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students improve their mathematics, science and communications skills as well as increase their competitiveness if they choose to apply to IMSA.

Held at DePaul University’s Chicago Loop campus, the Saturday sessions (November 8-February 21) include discovery-based and collaborative activities, as well as some preparation for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Students develop research, decision-making, and self-motivation skills while studying mathematics, science and English. Students also will attend an all-day retreat at IMSA (December 13).

Students currently in the ninth grade who reside in Chicago are eligible to apply for the program. Students can also request to have an application mailed to them by calling the IMSA Admissions Office at (630) 907-5059. Deadline to apply is October 15, 2003. EIP is supported by the generosity of donors to the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education.
