REGISTRATION OPEN FOR IMSA KIDS INSTITUTE® SUMMER CAMPS

AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Kids Institute® is now accepting student registrations for its summer 2004 camps. These enrichment programs are offered to students from the Fox Valley and Chicagoland areas who will enter grades 3-9 in the fall of 2004. Camps, held on the IMSA campus, fill quickly so check availability of space at wwwimsaedu/kidsinstitute or by calling (630) 907-5987 before registering for a program. Registrations may be sent via mail, fax or dropped off in the registration box at the IMSA front desk.

The following IMSA Kids Institute® programs are now taking registrations:

For students entering grades 3-4, Science Explorers, Jr., supported by BP, will be held June 21-25 and features a different science topic each day including: space, diggin' up science, transportation, under the sea and the science of art.

For students entering grades 5-6, Science Explorers will be held July 26-30 and celebrates the bicentennial year of the Lewis and Clark expedition by exploring the science of the Lewis and Clark journeys (mapmaking, geography, zoology, botany, technology and communications). For students entering grades 6-7, Art a la Carte, will be held June 28-July 2 and features a variety of art experiences, including ceramics, block printing, the potters wheel, photography, mural design and more.

NEW FOR 2004! For students entering grades 7-9, Summer Music@IMSA will be held June 21-25. This new program for band and orchestra middle school students features challenging music, group instruction, music techniques and general music appreciation. Call (630) 907-5987 for separate brochure and audition music. Audition tapes must be submitted to IMSA by 3/15/04 for consideration.

For students entering grades 8-9, three programs are being offered: Math Explorers will be held June 28-July 2 and participants will explore topics of mathematics that include discrete mathematics, patterns of art and music, fractals, codes, chromatic numbers, geometry and more.

Science@IMSA Residential Camps for Girls and Boys (Girls Camp - July 12-16; Boys Camp – July 19-23). These camps explore advanced topics in science. Students are immersed in a variety of topical science experiences including astronomy, biotechnology, botany, chemistry, art and science and “field survival.”

For students entering grades 6-9, Summer Sleuths will be held June 28- July 1 on the IMSA campus and integrates the use of science, social science and Internet tools to solve a real-world problem. Students present their solutions to a panel of experts. Call (630) 907-5956 for IMSA Sleuths information.
