Registration Open For IMSA Kids Institute® Summer Camps; Bilingual Investigaciônes Camp Offered

AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) Kids Institute is now accepting student registrations for its summer 2005 camps. These enrichment programs are offered to students from the Fox Valley and Chicagoland areas who will enter grades 3-9 in the fall of 2005. IMSA Kids Institute summer programs are held on IMSA’s campus in Aurora. Camps fill extremely quickly, so check availability of space at www.imsa.edu/kidsinstitute or by calling (630) 907-5987 before registering for a program. Registrations may be sent in via mail, fax or dropped off in the registration box at the IMSA front desk.
For students entering grades 3-4, Science Explorers, Jr. (June 20- 24). Supported by BP, the day camp features new science topics each day including: forensics, food science, fun physics, extreme weather and natural disasters and inventions. -FULL-
For students entering grades 5-6, Science Explorers (June 27-July 1). The day camp features a “Mission to Mars,” where students embark on a journey though space and science to explore the “next frontier” as resources are depleted in the future.-FULL-
For students entering grades 7-9, Summer Music@IMSA (June 27-July 1). This program for band and orchestra middle school students features challenging music, group instruction, sectional and full rehearsals, and creative lessons to learn math, science and technology through music. Musicians must have completed two full years of music and be currently performing at music level 2-3 to participate in this camp. The camp will be taught by John Fitchuk (Wheaton school district) and IMSA student musicians.
For students entering grades 8-9, three programs are offered:
Math Explorers (June 20-24). Participants explore topics of mathematics that include games and logic, experimental probability, topics of number theory and discrete mathematics (knot theory and codes).
Science@IMSA Residential Camps for Girls and Boys (Girls Camp - July 10-15; Boys Camp – July 17-22). These residential camps, one for girls and one for boys, explore advanced topics in science while experimenting with microbiology, fun physics, medicine, engineering, and extreme science makeover.

Other summer programs offered by IMSA include:For students entering grades 6-9, Summer Sleuths (July 18-21). In this day program, middle school students use science, math and social science to investigate a real-world problem. They gather information from experts, experiments, and the Internet and work in teams to develop a solution which they present to experts. Call (630) 907-5957 for IMSA Sleuths information.
For bilingual-Spanish students entering grades 6-9, Investigaciones (July 18-21). This day program features the same activities and problem as the Summer Sleuths program with bilingual-Spanish teachers. Additional resources in Spanish and Spanish-speaking experts enrich the experience for bilingual-Spanish students. Call (630) 907-5957 for information in English. For students entering grades 7 (July 25-29), and 8-9 (July 11-15), Camp E2K+: Let’s Do Launch! This day camp integrates mathematics, science and technology with activities that help students explore the relationships between force and motion, understand the effects of variables on experimental outcomes, interpret graphical representations of physical phenomena, and best of all, design and launch their own rockets! The activities have been developed by IMSA staff and are taught by experienced Excellence 2000+ math and science faculty from participating schools. Call (630) 907-5892 for more information.
