IMSA Early Involvement Program Extends Deadline

AURORA—The application deadline has been extended for ninth-graders in the Chicago area to participate in the Early Involvement Program (EIP) sponsored by the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA). The new application deadline is now November 1, 2005.  EIP is supported by donors to the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education, including a lead grant from Polk Bros. Foundation.

In its 15th year, EIP is designed to help African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students improve their mathematics, science and communications skills as well as increase their competitiveness if they choose to apply to IMSA.

Held at DePaul University's Loop campus, the Saturday sessions (November 5, 2005-February 25, 2006 ) include discovery-based and collaborative activities, as well as some preparation for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Students develop research, decision-making, and self-motivation skills while studying mathematics, science and English. In addition to the Saturday sessions, students will attend an all-day retreat at IMSA (December 10, 2005).

Ninth grade African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students who reside in the Chicago area are eligible for the program.
