AURORA -- The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) invites applications (www.imsa.edu/admissions/applyOnline) from Illinois students with a demonstrated interest and talent in mathematics and science. IMSA's tuition-free public residential educational program serves Illinois students (grades 10-12) talented in mathematics and science; most room and board expenses are provided by state funds.
IMSA offers a wide variety of challenging advanced level courses in mathematics, science, the arts and humanities and opportunities for engaged learning in student research and student leadership development. In addition, the residential Academy also offers a wide variety of fine and performing arts, clubs and organizations, as well as interscholastic sports.
The application deadline to be considered for the IMSA Class of 2010, which will enroll next fall, is drawing near. Students can apply either online at www.imsa.edu/admissions/applyOnline or download a print application at http://www.imsa.edu/admissions/apply/application.pdf.
Talented Illinois students enrolled in the equivalent of a ninth grade program are eligible for consideration. Tuition and most room and board expenses are provided by state funds. The application and all supplemental materials must be completed and returned to IMSA, postmarked no later than March 1, 2007. IMSA, which opened in 1986, has graduated more than 3,350 students with college placement rates of more than 99%. The Academy offers advanced courses in mathematics, science, the arts and humanities with an emphasis on connections within and across the disciplines. Research is an important part of the academic program and enables students to work with faculty, scientists and scholars. The Academy also offers many fine and performing arts opportunities, 32 co-curricular activities and 18 interscholastic sports.
