AURORA—The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) is seeking student applicants for its workshop Bridge Building 101: The Physics Behind the Structure to be held Sunday, April 15 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Batavia City Hall (100 N. Island Ave., Batavia). The workshop, sponsored by Batavia MainStreet, is for students entering 5th or 6th grade in the fall of 2007.
Guided by IMSA student teachers, participants will investigate how shapes and forces relate to bridge building. In addition, they will get hands-on bridge building experience as they work in teams to design and build their own bridges. Each team will compete to see whose structure can withstand the greatest force.
