Sharing Chocolates for Mom

Monica and Marvin were shopping for some candy for their mothers for Valentine’s Day. They found a huge jar of candy on sale at a discount store. They decided to split the chocolates. Monica would keep the jar and Marvin would find a box for his candies. The chocolates inside the jar were all the same size and weight. The jar, including the chocolates, weighed 1.8 kilograms. Marvin took out ½ of the candies from the jar and set those chocolates aside. The weight of the remaining chocolates and jar was 1.05 kilograms. How many GRAMS did only the jar weigh and how many GRAMS of chocolate did Monica and Marvin each have for their mothers for Valentine’s Day?

Make sure that you give all of the information asked for and explain exactly what you did to get the answers. Include and mathematical formulas you may have used in your explanation. Remember, all submissions must be from individual students. If more than one student is listed, the answer will be counted as wrong. Get up early on Sunday, February 22 and you can see a crescent moon, Mercury, Jupiter, and Mars (hard to see) in the southeastern predawn sky. Too lazy to do that, then check out a very bright Venus in the western sky well before dark and shortly after sunset. Keep looking up – you never know what you might see!
