Global competition and technology are changing the world dramatically and presenting both new opportunities and urgent imperatives for American schools. Milton Chen will discuss some of these global trends and how they impact the need for our schools to move more swiftly to create 21st Century schools incorporating authentic learning, 1:1 technology use for teachers, administrators, and students, and involvement of experts in the teaching process.

A Harvard Graduate School of Education Visiting Fellow, Milton Chen is the Executive Director of The George Lucas Educational Foundation (www.glef.org) in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he works to promote success stories in education and the use of technology. Prior to joining the foundation 1998, Dr. Chen directed the KQED Center for Education & Lifelong Learning (PBS-San Francisco), delivering educational services for teachers, parents, and community groups in support of public TV programming. In addition to serving as a director of research at the Children’s Television Workshop in New York, Chen was a visiting assistant professor of education HGSE from 1985-1987.
