"Science and Anti-Science: Technology and Its Burdens"
Ignorance of science thinking and of the complexities of an increasingly technological society are the consequence of a failed educational system. Here, education is broadly defined to involve home, school, media, science centers, books and magazines.
This lecture reviewed the status of science on a very broad level and discuss such anti-science movements as astrology, UFO sightings, alternative medicines, post-modernism, etc. Lederman wanted to connect science to technology and discuss the inevitable two-sidedness of technology: its' economic, social and cultural virtues and its' negative impacts. His argument is that, where the dark sides of technology can be recognized, informed popular opinion makes the choice.
