CURRENT PROGRAMMING

For Schools

ALLIES (Active Learning and Leading Integrative Explorations and Scholarship) Field Tripsare offered on specific Wednesdays each year to Aurora area students in grades 3-5. The field trips are a half day of hands-on science learning opportunity at IMSA with Academy students as teachers. This program is offered at no charge to participating schools. IMSA on Wheelsis a mobile science theater offered to elementary schools throughout the Chicago area. IMSA on Wheels is an assembly-style show for elementary students in grades 3 through 5. The Fall 2008 45-minute assembly is "IMSA on Wheels in Technicolor". This presentation covers topics in optics and light composition, including reflection, refraction and the colors of light. IMSA on Wheels is funded by grants from BP and 3M.

Summer Programs 2009Keep your academic engines running all summer long! Science, mathematics, technology and the arts are all featured as part of IMSA's Kids Institute summer program line up. Day programs are offered for students entering 3rd through 9th grades. Residential programs are also offered for students entering 8th and 9th grades.

Saturday FUNshopsare one day workshops held in the fall and spring for 3rd through 6th grade students. These workshops are designed and taught by IMSA students and faculty.

Past programming

For Schools

Project READ featured IMSA students as reading tutors for 2nd and 3rd graders at Johnson Elementary in the East Aurora School District. The goal was to help younger students become more motivated to read through hands-on activities, one-on one tutoring, and group activities designed to increase literacy skills

Summits

The Science Summitfeatured opportunities for middle school students and their parents to participate in hands-on science fun, learn from IMSA students and faculty and experience some of what IMSA has to offer.

The Math & Technology Summitwas held on each fall at IMSA. From solving math puzzles to programming computers, this program allowed participants to get involved and exercise their brains.

Summer Camps

Art a la Cartwas offered in 2003 and 2004 for 6th and 7th graders. This program featured photography, ceramics, the potters wheel, block printing and other art enrichment activities.

Digital Artoffered a weeklong day experience for middle school students that integrated art with technology. This program was taught by creative and talented IMSA students and faculty and introduced students to graphics software.

Explorations in Sciencewas geared for middle school laboratory explorations taught by IMSA faculty and assisted by IMSA students. This week of exploration was designed to help students look at their world using the eyes of a scientist. Participants were involved with laboratory activities, construction projects and idea sharing. This camp evolved into the Science@IMSA Residential Camps for Boys and Girls.

Math+Science 4 Girlswas a weeklong residential program for middle school girls that integrated math, science and technology and also included a research component. The program was taught by IMSA faculty with the assistance of IMSA student teachers. This camp is now called Science@IMSA Girls Residential Camps.

Math Explorers was a weeklong day program for students entering 8th and 9th grades. In the summer of 2006, this program became a co-ed residential camp and is now called Math@IMSA.
