IMSA students are working alongside IMSA faculty, staff and mentors from Chicago Biofuels and Loud Grade Production Squad to convert grease into usable fuel. The goal is to power one IMSA utility vehicle on a B30 blend (30% Biodiesel and 70% diesel).
In addition, IMSA has partnered with John C. Dunham STEM School and Loyola University's Biodiesel Laboratory to bring expertise of the biofuels indsutry to STEM and energy focused curriculum.
IMSA Students are exposed to various fuel standards, testing methods and production optimization. They are learning about the chemistry behind biodiesel and the mechanics of a compression ignition engine.
