Biography

Ashwin Mohan is a Computer Science (CS) Faculty at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy. Dr. Mohan’s background is in the area of mathematical modeling of systems and their control. Prior to teaching at IMSA, his focus for the past several years has been collaborating with scientists across disciplines to develop multi-scale computational models to study the underlying mechanism of diseases. This cross-collaboration has helped generate a fundamental understanding of structure-function relationships in biological systems using various computational approaches, including machine learning formulations. Before moving to Chicago in 2019, Dr. Mohan worked as a Research Scientist in the Biomedical Engineering Department at Washington University in Saint Louis (WUSTL). Most recently, he worked at Glenbrook High School South (GBS) before moving to IMSA as CS faculty.

Dr. Mohan has served as the Program Manager for the MU National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate K–12 Fellows project and Coordinator of the Student Teacher Mentorship Outreach Program (STOMP- Tufts U.). He helped establish after-school programs and camps focused on disseminating neural engineering and robotics content to K-12 youth in rural schools across Missouri.

He also co-founded a non-profit organization that continues to help foster scientific collaborations between various research, industry, and higher ed. agencies in the USA and India. Dr. Mohan received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Missouri (MU). Dr. Mohan received his B.S. in Instrumentation and Control Engineering from the University of Bombay.
