Since the public launch of Where Curiosity Lives: A Campaign to Reinvent Residence Life on July 18, alumni and friends have been rallying behind their class years in pursuit of the Class Cup! With the challenge now extended through December 31, there is still plenty of time for classes to climb the leaderboard and make a lasting impact on IMSA’s future.
Adding to the excitement, two alumni families have stepped forward with generous matching gift challenges, creating opportunities for classmates to double the impact of their support.
Robert Chang ’89 and Ginger Chang kicked things off to celebrate 40 years of IMSA with a generous match for gifts up to $40,000 from Class of 1989 alumni!
Inspired by their generosity, Matthew Gietl ’12 and Waverly Wang have offered an additional $40,000 match for gifts from the Class of 2012. Together, these commitments represent $80,000 in potential matching opportunities, encouraging alumni to reconnect with their classmates and contribute to the campaign!
The response has already been impressive. As of October 27, the Class of 2012 has surged into first place, followed by strong showings from several other classes. Leaderboard totals reflect gifts raised by each class and do not include matching gift contributions, meaning the full impact of these challenges could be even greater.
Class Year Challenge Leaders — October 27, 2026
- Class of 2012 — $61,000
- Class of 2000 — $38,731
- Class of 1996 — $11,826
- Class of 1994 — $11,321
- Class of 1999 — $10,154
While the Class of 2012 currently holds a commanding lead, the competition is far from over. Every new gift to the Where Curiosity Lives Campaign can be designated in support of a class year, and participation is open to alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends of IMSA.
The winning class will receive recognition on the Class Cup, acknowledgment across IMSA communications, a special gift for participating alumni and student donors, and the opportunity to have a component of the new student center named in its honor.
There’s still time to make your class part of IMSA history! Alumni interested in establishing a matching gift challenge for their own class can contact giving@imsa.edu.
Whether you’re making your first gift or encouraging classmates to join you, every contribution brings IMSA closer to realizing the vision of Where Curiosity Lives.
