Ever want to learn to design a roller coaster or design a car for a hamster? On September 3, 2015, the Chicago Tribune featured IMSA’s efforts to expand engineering and design education to 4th and 5th graders in the Western suburbs through its Fusion program. La Grange-Countryside and Western Springs Elementary Districts were selected to pilot the problem-based curriculum from surrounding districts in the West Suburban Consortium for Educational Excellence. Students delve into real-world challenges such as safely packaging and transporting a Pringles potato chip across town, and the power of technology is discussed as students consider how Tom Cruise at 5'7" is made to look tall.
