Final Governor Action: June-July

Once the General Assembly passes the budget, the Governor must sign the appropriations bills to authorize state funds to be spent.  The Governor may veto a specific line item of the bill, or reduce the entire funding amount recommended in the bill. Any vetoes by the Governor may be reviewed and re-voted on by the General Assembly during their fall session, which is typically October through December. The legislators may restore their recommended budget amounts by a simple majority vote in both chambers in the case of a reduction veto, and by a three-fifths super majority vote for a line item veto.
