Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy

To ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.

Government Relations

Founded in 1985 as an agency of the State of Illinois, IMSA’s enabling legislation specifies two responsibilities:

·     “offer a uniquely challenging education for students talented in the areas of mathematics and science” (accomplished primarily through IMSA's Residential Program), and

·      “stimulate further excellence for all Illinois schools in mathematics and science” (accomplished primarily through IMSA's Extension Programs)

Government Relations encompasses comprehensive efforts to advocate year-round for the Academy's two legislative charges by developing positive relationships with legislators, engaging with Illinois higher education associations, and working with other state agencies. Any questions related to government relations can be directed to Director, Office of Public Affairs Tami Armstrong at or 630-907-5681.
