IMSA Board Presentations

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy holds public meetings of the Board of Trustees six times each year. Many of these meetings include presentations on subjects affecting the Academy and relating to education. These presentations are often delivered to the Board of Trustees by staff and faculty of the Academy. We invite you to view any of these presentations below. Stakeholder Engagement: Build IMSA's Network will be given at the March 16, 2016 Board Meeting
presented by Dr. Jeffrey Margolis at Executive Committee Meeting held Wednesday, February 17, 2016.
 
IMSA Vice President for External Engagement Dr. Jeffrey Margolis will present information regarding the 2014-2016 priority outcome, "Build IMSA's Network," which is organized under the pillar of Stakeholder Engagement. This priority outcome supports the IMSA Impact Goal, that "By 2022 IMSA is a recognized global leader and catalyst in equity and excellence in STEM teaching and learning, innovation and entrepreneurship."

Standards of Significant Learning presented by Dr. Janice Krouse, chairman of the Presidential Committee for the Standards of Significant Learning (SSLs) and four committee members: World Languages Faculty Ms. Brenda Crosby; Mathematics Faculty Dr. Don Porzio; History and Social Science Faculty Dr. Lee Eysturlid; and Multicultural Education Specialist Dr. Adrienne Coleman at Meeting of the Board of Trustees held January 20, 2016.

The Presidential Committee for the Standards of Significant Learning (SSLs) was comprised of ten faculty and staff who convened during April–May 2015 and September–October 2015. The committee's charge was two-fold. First, the committee revisited and revised IMSA’s Standards of Significant Learning (SSLs), not with a goal to rewrite or construct a major overhaul, but rather to clarify, define and/or refine. Second, the committee was to plan professional development for staff to help them embrace, apply, and own the new version of the SSLs.The outcomes are presented in the attached report.

STEM Educator Proficiencies presented by IMSA Principal Dr. Marie Dahleh and Executive Director of IMSA Professional Field Services Ms. Michelle Kolar. Information regarding the 2014-2016 priority outcome: "Develop Educator STEM Proficiencies." This priority outcome supports the IMSA 2022 goal, that "By 2022 IMSA is a recognized global leader and catalyst in equity and excellence in STEM teaching and learning, innovation and entrepreneurship."
 
Professional Field Services Summer 2015 Executive Director of IMSA Professional Fields Services Ms. Michelle Kolar highlights summer 2015 programs for students and educators. Professional Field Services advances our second legislative charge to "stimulate further excellence for all Illinois schools in mathematics and science." Ms. Kolar summarizes programmatic outputs, outcomes, strengths, opportunities and challenges, as well as some financial information. Joining Ms. Kolar for the presentation is Director of Statewide Initiatives Ms. Dora Phillips.
