NOAA Planet Stewards and Educator Institute Day

March 1-3, 2018

NOAA Planet Stewards Conference will be held March 1 - March 3, 2018.

IMSA's Educator Institute Day will be held on March 2, 2018 in conjunction with the NOAA conference.  Sessions will be focused on both NOAA Planetary Stewardship and STEM areas.

Thursday, March 1 - "Educating the Earth: A Community of Collaboration"
Join us for an adventure in collaboration, community and a bit of competition at Aurora's own SciTech Hands On Museum to kick off the Planet Stewards Conference.  Attendees will create their own fizzy beverages at the Drink Lab, explore ideas through a museum scavenger hunt, and enjoy unlimited access to the entire museum including a special traveling exhibit on Oceans: Acid vs. Life.

Friday, March 2 - "Educating the Earth: My Place in This World"

Friday's event will kick off with a keynote speaker focusing on role educators to build scientifically-literate individuals and communities who are prepared to respond to environmental challenges and further STEM education.  Breakout sessions will dive deeper into the areas of clean and renewable water and energy.  These include hands on inquiry using daphnia magna as a biological assay, explorations in nuclear energy, guest speaker from the environmental protection agency, and alternative energy solutions.  A special emphasis will be placed on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Saturday, March 3 - "Educating the Earth: Planetary Stewardship"

On Saturday, we will take a closer look at our role as stewards of the planet.  There will be two tracks available for the day.  Both groups will kick off with a panel discussion on climate science and community resilience.  Then participants will choose to be a part of an environmental design sprint or dive deep into environmental lesson planning with experts from CLEAN (Climate Literacy & Energy Awareness Network).  A Legislative Luncheon is also planned for Saturday with the opportunity to hear from and interact with local elected officials.
