Why did you choose to work at IMSA?

STEM has always been a major interest of mine, especially science and mathematics. These subjects were always my favorites in school. I would have loved to have been invited to attend IMSA as a student. Working here is the next best thing!

How are you implementing the academy’s equity policy, doing your work (curriculum, instruction and assessment) through an equity lens?

My role as an academic support specialist involves ensuring all students at IMSA have access to the support services they deserve, trying to remember that equality is not the same as equity. I approach my daily work with students, their families, and IMSA faculty and staff members asking how I can increase equity among our students.

Tell me something fun about you that might be interesting to others.

I’ve completed five marathons; including Boston, Chicago (twice), Marine Corps, and San Francisco. Chicago is by far the easiest!

What is Your Favorite Book?

I love reading all types of books, so it’s difficult to pick just one. I just finished reading The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. Currently, I’m reading The Testaments by Margaret Atwood. Favorite authors include Lisa See and Ta-Nehisi Coates.

What is Your Favorite Movie?

Again, it’s difficult to pick just one; but my list would include The Shawshank Redemption and almost any movie starring Tom Hanks or directed by Steven Spielberg.
