IMSA recently hosted its second annual Professional Development Day, attracting 250 educators from Cass, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kankakee, Lake, McHenry and Will counties. The event was supported by the Abbott Fund.

In cooperation with participating regional Offices of Education and School Districts, the event included more than 35 sessions for educators in grades 5-12, presented by IMSA faculty and staff focused on mathematics, science, the humanities, technology and sessions with integrated content.

Samples of session topics included: Viewing Molecules in 3D, Student Projects with Alternative Energy, Circling Around Trig Functions, Social Media in the Classroom, Geometry in Art and Architecture, Creativity in Science and Humanities, Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases and Using Content to Teach and Reinforce Languages and Communication Skills.
Educators also attended the keynote address Drug Discovery: the Search for a Novel Anti-tumor Agent presented by Jonathan Greer, Ph.D., Director of Structural Biology with Abbott Global Pharmaceuticals. During the address, educators learned about the use of 3D in drug research. In addition, educators had the opportunity to win an award by solving the CyberQuiz 4 Kids Challenge.
