Find out what IMSA Co-Founder, Resident Scholar and Nobel Laureate Dr. Leon Lederman will be laughing about on April 14, 2012.

Presented by ComEd, tickets are now on sale for the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy Silver Anniversary Gala--including a 90th Birthday Tribute to Dr. Leon Lederman-- to be held on Saturday, April 14th, 2012 at the St. Charles Country Club.  The Gala’s theme is “Energy and Innovation” and honors those who have contributed to and provided leadership for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education.

The IMSA 25th Anniversary honorees include: Trustees Award:  Sally Y. Walker, Executive Director, Illinois Association for Gifted Children; Shining Light Leadership Award:  The Harris Family Foundation of Chicago, represented by King Harris, Chairman, Harris Holdings, Inc.; Dr. Eric G. McLaren, IMSA Principal/Vice President for Academic Programs; and Catherine C. Veal, IMSA Vice President for Strategy and Advancement.

In addition, the Silver Anniversary Gala program includes an IMSA25 Art Exhibit and auction, and a showcase of the IMSA Energy Center and IMSA FUSION programs.

The Gala Master of Ceremonies is IMSA President Dr. Glenn W.  “Max” McGee.  The featured speaker is IMSA Class of 1990 Graduate Ramez Naam. Ramez is a computer scientist, recipient of the IMSA Alumni Trailblazer Award (2007), and author of the book, More Than Human: Embracing the Promise of Biological Enhancement.  Ramez also was the winner of the 2005 HG Wells Award for Contributions to Transhumanism.

Gala Co-Chairs for the event are Sheila MB Griffin, Founding IMSA Trustee and Past Chairman, and Executive Vice President, Griffin Holdings, Inc;. and Gregory K. Jones, IMSA Fund Director and Past President, and Chief Operating Officer, The Edgewater Funds.

The $300.00 ticket price for the black-tie optional fund raising event includes a $170 tax-deductible donation to the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education.  A limited number of tickets are available for this event and may be purchased online here.

The Gala Presenting Sponsor is ComEd; other corporate sponsors include  Tellabs and Rush-Copley Hospital.  The Gala is hosted by the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education (the IMSA Fund)  a not-for-profit corporation that raises private funds to help support IMSA’s programs for Illinois students and teachers.  Proceeds raised from the Gala benefit the IMSA Energy Center and IMSA FUSION program, two of IMSA’s signature programs.
