IMSA Class of 1995 Graduate Piyush Gupta, a researcher at the Broad Institute, is co-first author of a study recently published in the journal Cell showcasing the discovery of a chemical that can kill cancer stem cells.

IMSA's Summer Sleuths summer program held at Unity Point Elementary School in Carbondale for students entering grades 6-9 in the fall is showcased in an article in The Southern as well as in an online video.

IMSA was named one of eight winning projects from four states in the 2009 It's Your Environment Virtual Environment Fair sponsored by Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.

The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, in partnership with East Aurora School District 131, West Aurora School District 129, private schools of Aurora and City of Aurora Youth Services, hosted the inaugural Aurora Leadership Institute summer camp.

The IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education ( received a $75,000 Innovation Generation Grant from the Motorola Foundation to help spark Illinois students’ interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.

IMSA Class of 1994 graduate and writer/director Jenny Deller’s feature film project Future Weather  was named one of 10 semi-finalists in the Netflix FIND Your Voice Film Competition.

AURORA— The twenty-first senior class of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA) will graduate at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, at the Paramount Theatre in Aurora.  This year’s commencement address will be presented by Paul H. Knappenberger Jr., Ph.D., president of the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum in Chicago.

Newsweek/The Daily Beast named the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy one of the “Best High Schools in America” in its published list of 500 schools. 

In the Newsweek/The Daily Beast feature IMSA was ranked 37.  

IMSA is one of only five educational institutions in Illinois named to the Top 100. This is the sixth consecutive year IMSA was recognized by Newsweek in its annual ranking.

IMSA has been named a 2009 Intel Schools of Distinction winner, taking the top honor for "science excellence" at the high school level.  Each year, only one high school in the nation is the recipient of this prestigious recognition.
