During the recent convocation, IMSA Student Council President Aadi Tolappa '12 told IMSA's newest sophomores to keep an open mind and take advantage of new opportunities. "... My greatest advice to all of you is to find balance in your new lifestyle and to try new things," Tolappa said. "In a new school, you have the opportunity to choose a new direction for your life."

State Representative Thaddeus Jones began by asking the class of 30 sophomore students to close their eyes. They had gathered in a break-out session on August 31 to discuss the “Cycle of Poverty,” just one of the topics being addressed during EnACT - an innovative new program which equips sophomores with the ability to create and potentially pass a bill on the topic of their choice.

The IMSA 2011 Convocation keynote address presented by Surgeon Dr. Lillian Kao '89 sounded more like a tribute to her fellow Charter Class graduates and their many and varied "great" accomplishments.

A retired IMSA physics teacher and current IMSA Mathematics Faculty Member Dr. Vince Matsko are teaming up and making quite an impact on teaching and learning in Thailand.

IMSA senior Nishith Reddy was one of only four U.S. finalists and the only Illinois winner in the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, the world’s most prestigious youth award for a water-related science project.

Eighty Chinese administrators visited the IMSA campus to meet with IMSA staff as part of a new “People to People” educational exchange program with the People’s Republic of China.

Sailors and officials with the United States Navy visited with students from throughout Chicagoland involved in Summer@IMSA programs during Chicago Navy Week, celebrating the 100th anniversary of naval aviation.

Nearly 400 people attended the 6th annual CyberQuiz 4Kids Recognition Day at IMSA and students from Aurora, Batavia, Evanston, Hinsdale, Morris and Peoria were recognized as Grand Prize Winners for the 2010-11 school year.

IMSA's 2011 Commencement Speaker Dr Shirley Malcolm told graduates that "science can heal" and has many other 'dividends' to affect positive change.

IMSA  junior Nolan Maloney  was selected to be a member of the United States Chemistry Team. Only 20 students nationally are chosen for the 2011 team from a pool of more than 1,000 nominees.
