The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, in partnership with East Aurora School District 131, West Aurora School District 129, private schools of Aurora and City of Aurora Youth Services, hosted the inaugural Aurora Leadership Institute summer camp.

IMSA Chief of Security Jim Bondi, coordinator of this collaborative effort, said the cornerstone of any society is its leaders which is why this type of program is so important.
“As educators and community leaders, we all share the strong commitment to the future of our society and there is no question that the youth of our community are our future,” Bondi said.
In addition to Bondi, IMSA Class of 2009 graduate Kristen Lee, IMSA staff members Bob Hernandez, Margaret Hernandez, Linsey Crowninshield, Michelle Kolar, Tracy Miller and Julie Dowling and IMSA student members of LEAD also helped to facilitate the program for the 30 students from Aurora who attended the camp.
In addition, other community leaders helped to make the inaugural program a success including Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner, Marium Wade Hicks, student assistant program coordinator for West Aurora SD 129, Dan Barreiro, director of community services for the City of Aurora, and State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia.
