Registration is now open for ninth-graders in the Chicago area to participate in the tuition-free PROMISE - Early Involvement Program (EIP) sponsored by the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy® (IMSA). The application deadline is Friday, October 16, 2009. Applications are now available online at http://www.imsa.edu/admissions/multicultural/EIPAPP08.pdf
In its 19th year, PROMISE - EIP is designed to help African-American, Latino and economically disadvantaged students improve their mathematics, science and communications skills as well as increase their competitiveness if they choose to apply to IMSA.
The Chicago Saturday sessions will be held at James R. Doolittle East School, 535 E. 35th Street, November 7, 2009 through March 3, 2010.
PROMISE - EIP will include discovery-based and collaborative activities, as well as some preparation for the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Students develop research, decision-making, and self-motivation skills while studying mathematics, science and English. Students also will attend an all-day retreat at IMSA in December.
