For the second year in a row, IMSA senior Peter Lu was selected to be a member of the United States Physics Team, one of only 20 students nationwide chosen for the top honor.
Lu, of Lisle, was selected as a member of the team from a pool of nearly 3,600 nominees. He was chosen based on his performance on a semi-final exam, his transcript and academic summary, an application and letter of recommendation. For a listing of Peter's other accomplishments and hobbies, see the 2012 U.S. Physics Team profile.

As a result of making the team, Lu will attend nine days of intensive training and problem-solving in June at the University of Maryland. The training camp is a fast-paced crash course in the first two years of university physics and also includes opportunities to learn about cutting edge research from leading physicists.
Following the training camp, five members of the team and an alternate then will be chosen on June 13 to represent the U.S. at the 43rd International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) July 15-24 in Tallinn/Tartu, Estonia. More than 400 scholars from 90 nations will test their knowledge in physics, competing with the best in the world.
"The competition for a position on the U.S. Physics Team is intense and each student who participated in the 2012 selection process is deserving of recognition," said Dr. Beth A. Cunningham, executive officer of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT). "They are the future of America's success in physics related fields."
