RISE First Year Successes

rise.jpgThe inaugural class of RISE (Research, Inquiry, Skills & Experimentation) has made quite an impressive showing in competitions where students have showcased their research.  

Competitions and Awards: 17 students chose to present their work at a variety of venues, collectively earning 45 awards/recognitions.

National awards:

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics invited a RISE student to present her poster at a special session at the AIAA Propulsion and Energy 2014 Forum. Galactic Structure Evolution Over Time: The Effect of Redshift on the Galactic Bulge Mass to Central Black Hole Mass Ratio http://ciera.northwestern.edu/news/news_2013-2014.php – NSEF

A RISE student earned all-expense paid trip to the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in Washington, D.C. for his project, The Effect Of Nitrogen Content of Eight Soil Amendments On Microbial Biomss, Respiration, and Metabolic Quotient http://www.masslaboratory.org/news.html

A RISE student was the  state winner from Illinois of the U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize from the Water Environment Federation (WEF)—the most prestigious youth award for a water-related science project.
