Ms. Sarah O’Leary Driscoll

Science Faculty

Bio:

Sarah O’Leary-Driscoll has been a member of the biology faculty at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy for the past 14 years. She did her undergraduate degree in biology and biochemistry, and was an enthusiastic participant in a cross disciplinary honors program that connected science to other fields including history, philosophy, and literature, and experience which still informs her interests today. Her graduate work was focused in molecular biology, but she also dabbled in ecology and Evolution, with a particular focus on genetics and animal behavior. At IMSA, Sarah puts her passions and background into use when teaching the core biology classes, as well as a cancer focused molecular biology class and a biology of behavior course connected to evolutionary processes. In addition to her courses, Sarah has been working with new faculty for the past few years, facilitating their transition to the academy and helping in evaluations. Working with students and faculty outside of IMSA is also a priority for Sarah, and she has embraced opportunities to network through conferences, international science fair participation, and exchange programs with international students visiting IMSA. One of Sarah’s main goals as an educator is to help students see the importance of science in their own lives and the future of their world.
