Prescott Elementary, a Chicago Public School serves students in Lincoln Park and is one of only 300 public schools nationwide to be honored.

During a recent visit by State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, we were thrilled to see his Chief of Staff and IMSA alumnus, Mr. G. Allen Mayer ’90. Fun Fact: A 1504 resident for two of his three years at IMSA, Allen was known for his tie-wearing Alex P. Keaton look.

John Hoesley, IMSA ‘89 and Past President of the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education, is on the Crain’s Tech 50 leadership list. Congratulations, John!

Congratulations to Sasha Rahlin ’04 for winning a share of the $3 million Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for her work in collaborating with scientists from over 20 countries who captured an image of a black hole for the first time. The Breakthrough Prize, known as the “Oscars of Science,” annually recognizes achievements in the life sciences, fundamental physics and mathematics.

IMSA welcomed back Dr. Amanda Kracen ’94 as the keynote speaker for our Mental Health Assembly to kickoff Mental Health Week at IMSA.  Dr. Kracen encouraged us to reflect and think about our expectations, resiliency, and meaning as it relates to our everyday lives.

Congratulations to Jasmine Kwasa ’09 for being awarded the National Institute of Health 2019 D-SPAN Blueprint Neuroscience F99/K00 Grant.

IMSA welcomed alumnus Charles Ballowe ’97 back to campus today. He chatted with students in Marti Shirley’s Computer Science class, sat down with Dr. Torres and toured the new science labs with Dr. Don Dosch. He puts his problem solving skills to work daily at Google and we are so proud to call him one of our own!

Congratulations to Forrest Iandola ’08 and the DeepScale team for being acquired by Tesla. DeepScale’s technology helps automakers use low-wattage processors, to power very accurate computer vision.

Congratulations to Kristen Jakobsen Osenga ’90 for being named the Austin E. Owen Research Scholar by the University of Richmond School of Law.

IMSA welcomed back Dr. Miena Hall ’97 as the speaker for the Med Society CCC Forum. Dr. Hall shared her experience in the field of medicine with current IMSA students.

Elissa Larkin Conlon ’99 received the first Kabiller Humanitarian Award in June. Elissa is a bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab, previously known as the Rehab Institute of Chicago (RIC).

IMSA featured three Alumni at its 2019 Convocation Ceremony in August, including a keynote by Claudia Flores ’93 and musical performances by vocalist Alexandra Plattos Sulack ’07 and violinist Jo Marie Sison ’97.

Jessica Yagan ’95 was recognized as one of the 2019 Most Inspiring Chicagoans by StreetWise Magazine in August.

Dr. Torres and IMSA traveled to Seattle enjoying a reunion of Alumni from ‘89-‘13.

Matt Bornski ’03, Sharon DeCaro ’03, Anthony Stuckey ’89 and Tamora Kimmett ’91 served as panelists for the Computer Science Career Forum. Current students enjoyed an evening filled with insightful information and socializing with beloved alumni.

IMSA welcomed home friend and alumnus Steve Chen, co-founder of YouTube, this week. He and his delightful family spent time in the Steve and Jamie Chen Center for Innovation and Inquiry discussing the wonderful programming and opportunities this amazing space provides Illinois students.
