Upcoming Funshops

Invention Convention Funshop

(Sorry, this Funshop is sold-out—see our upcoming March and April Funshops)

Grades 3-4

Prepare to be dazzled by the ingenuity and creativity coming out of our Invention Convention Funshop! We will be welcoming the new year by challenging our young artists & engineers to create awesome ArtBots that might give Picasso a run for his money. Students will learn the science behind circuits and how to wire one, and with that knowledge they will create two different ArtBots, including one to take home.

Grades 5-6

Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines for the Invention Convention FunShop where young innovators will be tasked with the challenge of creating self-powered cars for the racetrack. Engineers will get the chance to design 2 different car models – one powered by an electrical circuit with the help of a littleBitsⓒ kit and another that runs on the elastic energy of rubber bands – and then it will be off to the races with their one-of-a-kind inventions!

Brain STEM Funshop

Grades 3-4

How does your brain get information and respond to the environment? Which part of the brain controls your mood or tells your heart to beat? Participants will begin to answer these questions as they learn about the brain and nerve cells. They will discover how different parts of the brain control different bodily functions. Participants will also design and build a neuron and model neuron communication through an interactive game.

Grades 5-6

The brain is the control center of the body, but how does it look and function? Are there substances that impact the function of brain? What can pass into this sensitive organ and what is kept out?  Participants will explore this fascinating organ by dissecting a sheep’s brain. Also, as an introduction to brain anatomy and physiology, students will create and test models of the blood brain barrier.

Can You Dig IT?

Grades 3-4

Dinosaurs may be extinct, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t leave behind clues for us to discover… In this FunShop, students will put their paleontology skills to the test by trying to unearth all the fossils hidden in the IMSA dig sites. Will the fossils we uncover be enough to reconstruct an entire dinosaur skeleton? Come join us to find out!

Grades 5-6

Come join us for an exciting adventure that will take us back in time! We will become archaeologists and uncover secrets from ancient cultures. Once found we will piece together the clues, and discover exactly what was left behind for us to find. Come help us unveil which ancient society left behind the artifacts, and why!
