Campus Safety

Campus Safety and Security at IMSA is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The team is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors while fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming campus community. Our team works closely with the Aurora Police Department to ensure campus and the surrounding area remain safe and secure for the students and staff who call IMSA home.

The Security Officers on duty can be reached at all times by several methods. Depending on the situation and whether you are involved in an emergency, you will use one of the following methods to contact Security.

Emergency Number: 630.907.5042

In the case of an emergency, contact IMSA Security directly by dialing x5042 from any IMSA campus phone to connect you directly to the on-duty security officer. To dial from a cell or from anywhere off campus, dial 1.630.907.5042.

You will be connected directly to the responding officer’s radio, so please be concise when providing details.

Serious Emergency – Call 911

In the case of a serious emergency, where an Ambulance, Fire Department, or other special response is needed, please call 911 directly.

If you call 911, be sure to notify IMSA Security at 630-907-5042 and provide your location and the reason for the emergency response. The on-duty Security Officers will respond to the location of the emergency to assist or meet the emergency responders and direct them to the area in which they are needed.

See Something, Say Something

If you see something that doesn’t seem right, report it. Trust your instincts and contact Campus Security at 630-907-5042.

Remember: People aren’t suspicious. Behavior is.

Examples of suspicious behavior include:

  • Someone trying to enter locked buildings or rooms without authorization
  • Tailgating into a building behind another person
  • Someone carrying property in unusual circumstances or locations
  • Individuals lingering around buildings, vehicles, or residence halls without a clear purpose
  • Attempts to enter or tamper with a vehicle
  • Unusual noises such as screaming, sounds of fighting, gunshots, or explosions
  • Any activity that appears threatening, unsafe, or out of place

When reporting suspicious activity, provide as much information as possible, including a description of the person, vehicle, location, and behavior observed.

If you’re unsure whether something is worth reporting, call anyway. Campus Security would rather investigate a concern that turns out to be nothing than miss an opportunity to prevent an emergency.

Suspicious Packages

Do not open, move, or handle a suspicious package. Contact Campus Security immediately if a package:

  • Has no return address
  • Appears damaged, unusually heavy, or oddly shaped
  • Has excessive tape, postage, or packaging materials
  • Contains protruding wires or emits unusual odors, sounds, or substances

When in doubt, report it.
