Illinois State Representative Grant Wehrli visited with IMSA students and staff during “Take Your Legislator to School Day” on Friday, November 9. Rep. Wehrli went on a student-led tour of campus, learned about IMSA’s IN2 Innovation Center and sat in on mathematics and humanities classes. He finished the day with an in-depth discussion of political and educational issues with students, IMSA President Dr. Torres and Vice President of External Engagement Dr. Margolis over lunch.
Rep. Wehrli visited Calculus-Based Mechanics, taught by Dr. Brooke Schmidt, and also attended an engaging lecture in the History of Astronomy with Dr. Rob Kiely. At lunch, Rep. Wehrli spoke with students from his district, the 41st district in the Naperville area, as well as members of the Student Committee for IMSA Advancement (SCIA), learning about the students’ research and speaking to them about politics, business, STEM jobs and the future of Illinois.
The State Representative expressed how impressed he was with the Academy, its students and alumni and the “positive outcomes” that stem from the learning laboratory. “Coming to IMSA and meeting these future leaders rekindles my optimism that the future of Illinois is very bright.”
