Personal Reflections

January 6, 2020

Dear IMSA Family,

I feel compelled to share my shock about today’s events and my dismay about what has happened at the US Capitol in Washington, DC.

I sit here deeply disturbed viewing the images and listening to the news. Certainly, we did not expect to welcome 2021 in this manner. Yet, as we have done since March 2020, we must continue to apply the principle of what some call the Serenity Prayer:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things we cannot change;
the courage to change the things we can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.

IMSA, let’s focus on those things within our control, which include how we react to situations since we don’t control these current events. I wish I could say with Van Jones “that this is the END of something. We can NEVER let this happen again.” If it is to be, it is up to us!

Respectfully,

José M. Torres, Ph.D.
